Thinking about what types of images you want from your big day can be difficult!
Generally, most modern wedding photographers offer a style of photojournalistic or documentary... meaning that instead of styled and posed images, you'll get more a natural and candid feel. The photographer will capture the day as it naturally unfolds.
Admittedly, there might be some other types of images that you want. So it is important that you discuss this with your photographer prior to your big day!
Here are some ideas to think about...
Morning Preparations
Usually the photographer will be ready to shoot you and your party as you're getting ready and preparing for your big day. Usually this is the bride and her bridal party, but what if you are a same sex couple? Well this can be what ever you wish... for me and my partner, we got ready together so we were both present for pictures. If you're planning on getting ready separately but wish for both parties to be photographed, then you'll need two photographers... the second is usually an assistant to your main photographer.
Formal Portraits
These are not necessarily just pictures of the couple, but more of what is done by the couple... for example; the signing of the register, bride and father in the wedding car or a couple shot in front of the church.
Group Portraits
If you want group shots then have a think about who you want in your group shots? Do you just want your parents? Or add in the grandparents too? Maybe you have children and want to include them? Every family is different so these shots can be as unique as you like.
Special People
Do you have any special people which you absolutely want photographing?
Individual Portraits
Alone with the photographer, a chance to get some solo pictures of both of you.
Couple Portraits
At some point during the day, usually between the wedding breakfast and the evening party, you'll have some time to get some couple portraits done. Think about how you want these to look... they can be fun, fashionable and dramatic. You may have a particular place at your venue that you might wish to include, such as a beautiful garden or grand staircase.
Writing a list is a good way to organise any ideas that you might have. Have a good think and discuss any ideas with your photographer.
