An incredibly joyous and fun day... It was an absolute pleasure to shoot the wedding of Lisa & Steve. The lovely couple had been in a relationship for many years and only recently decided to tie the knot. I was excited to be doing the wedding photography for this lovely couple.
A small and intimate wedding, the venue was just perfect for their occasion. Surrounded by close friends and family, it was really nice for me to meet their nearest and dearest, including their parents and children.
The day started with the morning preparations of the bridal party at the hotel. Lisa was accompanied by her two main bridesmaids, who helped each other get ready, doing each others hair and makeup. It was nice to get some candid shots of them here!
There was no posing or requests from me, I just asked them to act naturally, talk about what they would usually talk about and do the things that they would usually do, and to pretend that I wasn't there. This isn't always easy to do... but they soon got the hang of it and the shots came about more naturally.
Soon after, the guests started to arrive and gather outside. The weather was really nice and it was the middle of summer, so everyone was happy to gather outside in the sunshine. Weddings always seem to bring friends and family together, so it is always nice to capture these warm greetings and embraces.
Everyone begins to gather inside in readiness for the ceremony, eager to see the bride and her beautiful dress.
Lisa was walked down the isle by her son. I knew how nervous she was from speaking to her upstairs, but you could not tell from looking at her.
Lisa walked in with a warm radiant glow and a confident smile.
At the end of the isle, Steve is nervously awaiting for his bride to arrive next to him.
The couple meet at the end of the isle and both relax and the ceremony gets gets going.
Standing at the top of the room, I took the opportunity to get a variety of shots, again trying be inconspicuous and not wanting to add to the nerves of the couple. I was able to take some shots from a distance using a zoom lens, which makes the pictures appear intimate.
Once the ceremony was over and the register signed and witnessed, the celebration continued outside on the terrace in the sunshine with drinks and canapes. This was a chance for everyone to congratulate the newly wed couple.
After people had an opportunity to have a drink, relax and congratulate the couple, I took the opportunity to get some portraits that the couple had requested that they wanted. These were images of the bridal party, close family and special people. This is when the candid photography pauses and some more formal portraits take place.
Continuing with the relaxed flow of the day, the next part was the wedding breakfast, with speeches from the family and best man. Once the speeches and toasts had taken place, it was time for the formal meal.
After a short break, the evening guests began to arrive ready for the evening party. I was able to get some shots of the guests and some shots of the smaller details of the day, such as the cake, decorations and sweet table!
By now, the drinks where flowing and everyone was starting to feel relaxed.
The energy of the day was starting to build and everyone was having a good time.
It was soon time for the first dance of the newly wed couple, who were soon joined by some of their guests. It was important to capture the energy of this moment. It was nice to see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves, and I knew for the sake of the couple, it was important for me to try and capture the essence of this moment.
Unfortunately for me, this was the end of my day. I had such a good time and I was happy that I was leaving the celebrations on a high! Here is to the next occasion!
